drama festival 2020 will not be held this year.
On March 13th, the province of New Brunswick announced that all public schools would be closed for two weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the following weeks, we were hopeful, but realistic with how this would impact the festival.
On April 2nd when the government announced schools would remain closed for the remainder of the school year, we knew then, we had to formally announce that Drama Festival 2020 will not be held this year.
We spent the last two weeks looking at potential alternatives such as distance adjudication, travel to schools for a scaled down production, and workshops. However, with schools being closed for the remainder of the school year, these are no longer viable options. We are still exploring options for regional workshops in the fall.
We want to address any concerns over fees that have been paid. The cheques were deposited, and we could reimburse them, but there would be no one at the schools to receive them. Instead we will give each school a credit for the 2021 Festival. If you enroll in the fall, you can use the credit; if you do not, a full refund will be issued. We will include your credit certificate in the information package that we send to the schools in the fall.
We believe that the Festival is such a meaningful experience for students and teachers and are very hopeful that Festival 2021 will be our most attended and best one yet.
